ARTIST STATEMENT

I vividly recall sitting on a bus in Gyeongju, South Korea, waiting for our next field trip destination. As the noise of my classmates faded, I caught my reflection in the window and thought, “Who is this Asian girl?” In that moment, I distanced myself from my identity—my features, my body, my personality. This existential question ignited my ongoing exploration of personal identity. Having lived between Eastern and Western cultures, I’ve long sought to understand how identity is formed and how we connect to the world.

For over two decades, I’ve created multidisciplinary works that explore identity from various perspectives—body, memory, soul, and their interconnectedness. My creative process is intuitive, blending research from science, philosophy, and ancient wisdom to unravel the complexities of self. Recently, my focus has shifted to authenticity as the core of identity, expressing joy, ease, and freedom through my creative practice as I embrace my individuality within the larger world.
